Ajax 2-3 Tottenham: Lucas Moura joins Cristiano Ronaldo in illustrious group of players to achieve extraordinary Champions League feat, which Lionel Messi hasn’t

Tottenham Hotspur reached the Champions League final in extraordinary circumstances on Wednesday evening as Lucas Moura netted a last-gasp goal to complete his hat-trick and stun Ajax at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Spurs seemed dead and buried at half-time as they trailed 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate after goals from Matthijs De Ligt and Hakim Ziyech.

Fortunately for the north Londoners, Moura had other ideas and his late goal in the dying embers of the match sealed a historic win for the club, leaving Mauricio Pochettino in floods of tears on the pitch.

The Brazilian was a man possessed and he became just the fifth player to score a hat-trick in a semi-final tie in the competition’s history, with four of them coming in this decade.

But who are the players to have done it? Find out below…

Alessandro Del Piero

The Juventus legend bagged a hat-trick against Monaco in the semi-final in 1998 and remarkably all three goals came from dead-ball situations.

He thundered a 25 yard free kick into the net before rifling home two unstoppable penalties to send his side to the final, with Zinedine Zidane adding a fourth to make the return leg a formality.

Ivica Olic

The Croatian netted a stunning hat-trick for Bayern Munich against Lyon in 2010 – a match he has described as the best of his life.

Two superb finishes and a lovely guided header sent Louis van Gaal’s men to the final, where they would eventually be defeated by Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan.

Robert Lewandowski

Liverpool’s 4-0 thrashing of Barcelona in midweek is not the first time a Jurgen Klopp team has dismantled a Spanish giant.

Klopp’s Dortmund stunned Real Madrid 4-1 in 2010 thanks to four goals from Robert Lewandowski.

However, Die Borussen would eventually lose to old foes Bayern in the final.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo not only has the most goals in the competition’s history but he also has the joint-most hat-tricks alongside Lionel Messi.
