Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino deserves to be backed in the transfer window this summer, insists club legend Darren Anderton.
The former Spurs and England midfielder joined talkSPORT after a ‘perfect night’ for the club, as they opened their new £1billion stadium with a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.
The result lifted Spurs back up to third in the Premier League table and ended a torrid run of five games without victory.
That familiar mid-season dip would have been enough to convince fans they need to improve the team this summer – not like they needed much convincing – after two barren transfer windows.
Tottenham’s consistent position near the top of the table, even challenging for the title earlier in the campaign, is quite incredible given their lack of spending compared to their rivals.

But Anderton believes the time has come to reward Pochettino for his hard work by giving him cash to splash in the summer.
Asked if Pochettino deserves to be backed in the transfer window, Anderton said on Thursday’s Sports Breakfast: “Yes he certainly does.
“Pochettino has done unbelievably well since he’s come to the club.
“He’s taken Spurs on and all the players who were there before he’s improved individually.
“But they’ve got to keep improving the team.
“The new stadium was built for Champions League football, not the Europa League, so they’ve got to get into that next year for sure.
“In order to bring new players in as well, if you want the best players in the world you’ve got to play in that competitions.
“When it comes down to it, they’ve got to start winning trophies and bringing in more players, world class players.â€
