Football can evoke passion and emotion like no other sport, but sometimes fans get so caught up in the moment they overstep the mark.
This appears to have been the case in a recent incident concerning Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah and the injury he suffered against Newcastle.
Salah was involved in an accidental collision with Martin Dubravka, the Magpies goalkeeper, in the second half of Liverpool̢۪s 3-2 victory over Newcastle last Saturday.
The Liverpool star sustained a concussion as a result of the clash, which meant he missed the Reds’ stunning comeback win over Barcelona in the Champions League.
It was expected Liverpool would lose to Barca given they were without Salah, as well as fellow forward Roberto Firmino, and fans were annoyed the collision against Newcastle ruled the Egypt international out Tuesday’s match.
Some ‘supporters’ took it too far, though, by sending death threats to a Newcastle goalkeeper in the wake of Salah’s injury.

However, the glovesman they sent the sinister threats to was not Dubravka, the man who collided with Salah – but instead backup keeper Rob Elliot.
Elliot was not even among the substitutes for the match at St James’ Park!
The former Charlton goalkeeper shared a post on Instagram showing multiple messages he received in the wake of Salah’s collision – with one individual threatening to kill him.

What a win for Liverpool… really glad they won, could have been going into hiding if not. In Asia apparently 😂😂😂🤷â€Ã¢™‚ï¸
Fans of Elliot, 33, replied with messages of support, laughing at the keyboard warriors for their inability to distinguish between Elliot and Dubravka.
The latter spoke of his concern at seeing Salah stricken on the pitch after their collision, saying he was only focused on catching the ball.
â€Å“I didn’t hit him with my hand, I didn’t punch him,†Dubravka said. â€Å“It might have been my hip.
