Liverpool 2-0 Porto: Jurgen Klopp says ‘the game is still on’ despite two-goal advantage in Champions League quarter-final

Jurgen Klopp admitted there was still more work to do in their Champions League quarter-final clash with Porto.

Liverpool won 2-0 at Anfield in the first leg on Tuesday but the German may have felt his side could be taking a bigger advantage into the second leg.

The Reds went two goals up after 24 minutes and it looked like it may be heading for a repeat of the 5-0 thrashing they gave Porto last February.

The chances for Klopp’s side dried up in the second half but they did not concede an away goal and take a big advantage into the second leg.

Speaking in his press conference after the game, the Liverpool boss said: “It was a good game. We controlled it and deserved the win 100 per cent. A really good performance.

“We had to work really hard to defend their counter-attacks. All good, 2-0. The game is still on. We have to go there and fight.

“We didn’t have as many chances as we would have liked in the second half. We had to do a lot of work to win the ball back.

“In Portugal last year we finished our chances, tonight we didn’t. We are very good at counter-attacks, we know that. There is still a lot to do and it will be a difficult atmosphere over there.”

Klopp was also full of praise for his Liverpool players for their individual performances.

“Hendo is a brilliant player,” he added. “He obviously likes the position. We’ve not used him there for three-and-a-half years. Sorry about that! I’m glad he can show it. A lot of good individual performances.

“Naby (Keita) was really, really good. He got better minute by minute and he continued that.

“Milly (James Milner) played left-back was the first time in a long time and he was fantastic.”
