Bolton Wanderers: Sam Allardyce tells talkSPORT he is ‘depressed’ by former club’s financial struggles

Former Bolton Wanderers manager Sam Allardyce has told talkSPORT he has been left ‘depressed’ by their financial struggles.

Big Sam spent eight years in charge of the Lancashire club during their most successful period of recent history – taking them to the Premier League, where they stayed for 11 seasons, and to European competition.

And now, with his old club faced with going bust, Allardyce is saddened by how their affairs have crumbed off the field.

“It depresses me a huge amount,” he said on Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“What I’m hearing from within is that real problems are mounting up by the number of debts Bolton are acquiring.

“I hear there are winding up orders being delivered left right and centre for debts that are owned.

“Unfortunately there is a massive problem at the club and if they’re not sorted very shortly one of the things we haven’t seen for a long time may happen – that they go under and Bolton Wanderers are made insolvent.

“I think that would be an absolutely tragedy for the town and everybody around here in Bolton.”
