Liverpool vs Huddersfield: Surprising stat shows Reds shouldn’t take Terriers for granted

Liverpool face Huddersfield on Friday evening in what can truly be described as a David vs Goliath clash.

The Terriers were relegated from the Premier League a month ago and have won just three matches this campaign.

While the Reds are on the hunt for their first title in 29 years and simply cannot afford to drop points at Anfield.

The odds couldn’t be stacked more in favour of Jurgen Klopp’s side, with Oddschecker pricing Huddersfield at a whopping 33/1 to claim the unlikely victory.

However, there is one surprising stat could offer City and Terriers fans a glimmer of hope ahead of the Friday evening affair.

In the near 100-year strong history of fixtures between the sides, Huddersfield have remarkably won more of the matches.

The Terriers have won a total of 31 of the 78 fixtures between the sides, with Liverpool winning 30 and the pair drawing on 17 occasions.

So if history is anything to go by, City fans can have some hope that the Reds will drop points.

However, in a stat that makes worse reading for Huddersfield fans, Liverpool have won each of their last six clashes in all competitions.

And Jurgen Klopp has said he wont overthink his team selection for the game.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, he said: “This would probably be the last game where I would overthink anything.

“Because it’s always the same, the situation they are in and the things people think about the game is already enough bad preparation, so I will not push that wrong mindset with a strange line-up or whatever. No chance.

“We had enough time to recover after the last game, we have enough time to recover for the next game. Barcelona has nothing to do with the game on Friday night.”
