Sarri tips Callum to be future Blues star

Sarri tips Callum to be future Blues star
LONDON ̢ۢ Maurizio Sarri has said that Callum Hudson-Odoi is ready to start an English Premier League match for Chelsea and it will not be long before he becomes a regular starter, but has defended his cautious use of the youngster thus far.
The winger, 18, made his England debut in last week's Euro 2020 qualifier against the Czech Republic, and started the next match against Montenegro. But he has played only 119 minutes in the Premier League this season across six substitute appearances.
However, before Chelsea's league clash against Cardiff today, their Italian manager Sarri maintained it is coincidence that Hudson-Odoi's seven starts this season have all come in the Europa League, FA Cup or League Cup.
He has made 19 appearances in all competitions, including the Community Shield.
"I'm really very confident in him," Sarri said. "He has started a lot of matches - not in the Premier League but that's by chance. It's not a problem for me to put him in the starting XI in a Premier League match. He's ready.
"But, of course, I can only play with two wingers. In the squad, we have (Eden) Hazard, Willian, Pedro, so it's really not very easy to start every match.
"Probably in the near future, he will start in 75 to 80 per cent of the matches.
"In this season, he is really very young... He needs to improve more - he has to work every day, and improve the left foot, improve in the defensive phase, improve in the movement without the ball.
"So I think the evolution is the right evolution. Probably, he will play 30 to 35 matches next season."
Hudson-Odoi, whose contract expires in June next year, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich. The German champions have tabled a bid of £35 million (S$61.8 million) for him, with the player himself said to be open to the transfer.
But Sarri insisted he believes that Hudson-Odoi will remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.
"I think so," he said. "I'm not able to say if he will sign a new contract, but I think he will remain here with us in every case."

Sarri drops huge hint about Chelsea star's future amid Bayern

With the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool linked to the youngster, Maurizio Sarri has came under pressure for not giving Hudson-Odoi an opportunity. That is only increasing since the Blues star's assist in the Three Lions 5-1 over Montenegro.

The future of West London outfit Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is yet to be settled with report that the Blues management are yet to come up with a final stand. It is also reported that the Italian boss has told the club hierarchy that he desires to leave the club for another challenge elsewhere.

Leicester City 3-0 Arsenal: Gunners stars rated and slated after another defeat

Just when Arsenal fans thought it couldn’t get any worse this week, they conceded three goals for the third time and made it a trio of defeats.

Having already lost to Crystal Palace and Wolves, Leicester City took their opportunity to brush the Gunners aside with ease.

Arsenal players look dejected during their defeat to Leicester

Even before Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two bookable offences, Unai Emery’s men looked like struggling against the Foxes, who are performing well under new boss Brendan Rodgers.

Once they were down to 10-men, though, Arsenal were barely able to lay a glove on their opponents and had it not been for the brilliance of goalkeeper Bernd Leno could have lost the game by a bigger margin at the King Power Stadium.

The German shot-stopper was clearly their best player on the day but how did talkSPORT.com rate the rest of their XI, who look set to miss out on a top four spot? Find out below.

Bernd Leno – 9/10

Recovered well during an early mix up to claim the ball and after some straight forward stops then produced a fine effort to deny Wilfred Ndidi a goal from a header. He stood strong as his goal was peppered by the Foxes and it would definitely have been

Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 2/10

The youngster received an early yellow card for an unneeded block on Ben Chilwell but moments later he saved his side by deflecting a Maddison strike over the crossbar. He struggled with the threat of Chilwell who was marauding down the flank. His tough afternoon was ended after just 35 minutes when he fouled his tormentor Maddison on the halfway line as the Foxes broke on the counter.

Michael Oliver shows Ainsley Maitland-Niles a red card

Sead Kolasinac – 5/10

Failed to get forward and support Iwobi on a couple of occasions and was hardly a giant defensively with Marc Albrighton keeping him on his toes throughout.

Shkodran Mustafi – 6/10

Almost made an error early on attempting to shield the ball from a Leicester player but was generally okay, even when shifted out to right-back.

Sokartis – 5/10

Foolishly lumped the ball out of play during just as Arsenal had handled a spell of Leicester pressure and lost Ndidi for the Nigerian’s excellent chance from a corner. Not his finest game this season as he and Koscielny were then beaten by Vardy for Leicester’s second of the match.

Lucas Torreira – 6/10

Laid out by an unintentional boot in the chest by Hamza Choudhury early on an struggled to make his usual impact in central midfield as Leicester City moved their play to the flank. Plenty of effort from the Uruguayan though and he can hold his head higher than others.

Granit Xhaka – 4/10

Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint what the Swiss international is doing when the Gunners are on the back foot. His passing was well off the standard you would like him to bring in such a key game and wasted one counter attack with a lazy ball forward.

Granit Xhaka of Arsenal holds off Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City

Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 4/10

A wandering display when the Gunners had 11 men remained an ambling effort when they lost Maitland-Niles, clearly kept on due to his threat on the counter but he was found wanting. Understandably hooked for Matteo Guendouzi after 72 minutes.

Alex Iwobi – 4/10

Dropped in deeper on occasion and appeared to be off the usual wavelength he has with Kolasinac. He was taken off at half-time and replaced by Koscielny as Emery shuffled his pack.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4/10

Just couldn’t keep hold of the ball when the Gunners got forward and was unable to get one shot on Kasper Schmeichel’s goal in a tough match for the Gabonese ace.

Leicester City ace Harry Maguire comfortably held off the threat of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all match

6

Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10

Scuffed a good chance after 23 minutes having freed himself from his marker and was far brighter and more involved than his striker partner. He may have been feeding off scraps but was at least trying his hardest to get

Substitute: Laurent Koscielny – 5/10

Vital tackle stopped Vardy going through one-on-one with Leno but appeared just as ropey as him team-mate when it came to the crunch. His failed clearance allowed Vardy to race through and, eventually, scored the Foxes’ second.

Laurent Koscielny misses the chance to stop Jamie Vardy’s first goal

6

Substitute: Matteo Guendouzi – 5/10

Other than some better passing, the French youngster made little-to-no difference in midfielder as Rodgers’ starlets shone at the King Power Stadium.

Substitute: Eddie Nketiah – N/A

Looked troublesome when he came on and got into the right areas but wasn’t on long enough to earn a mark.

Liverpool transfer news: John Barnes says Reds are unlikely to make ‘major signings’ this summer

Liverpool won’t be making any major signings this summer, Anfield hero John Barnes has claimed.

The Reds look likely to end the season trophyless despite confirming their reputation as one of Europe’s best teams, with Manchester City frontrunners for the Premier League and Barcelona all but certain to knock them out the Champions League at the semi-final stage.

It could be another season for Klopp without silverware

1

It could be another season for Klopp without silverware

But unlike when Liverpool last challenged for the title, under Brendan Rodgers in 2013/14, this is considered the start of a new era for Liverpool – rather than a one-off freak season.

Klopp looks certain to remain at Anfield for a number of years, and as long as he is in charge the Reds will surely be challenging for the highest honours every term.

Questions have been asked about just how Klopp can improve his current team, given they are a truly remarkable group of players in a system perfectly suited for them.

Nonetheless, Wednesday’s defeat by Barcelona showed a new striker is a necessity.

Klopp needs a player who can cover for Roberto Firmino, as Georginio Wijnaldum was forced to play in attack at Camp Nou due to the Brazil forward’s injury – and he did little to impress.

There have also been suggestions an attacking midfielder could be brought in this summer to offer something different off the bench and rotate with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

Xherdan Shaqiri was expected to perform this duty when he joined from Stoke last summer, but it appears he does not have the required quality for Liverpool.

So summer signings are possible, and players have been linked with the Reds, but Liverpool legend John Barnes doubts there will be any incomings throughout the transfer window.

â€Å“The summer transfer window for Liverpool will depend on Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi staying,” said Barnes, speaking exclusively to BonusCodeBets.co.uk.

“When you look at Joe Gomez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain returning to the team, they won’t need to bring anyone in.

“It won’t surprise me if Liverpool don’t make a major signing. The fans and club trust in what Klopp is doing, so there won’t be any disappointment if he doesn’t sign anyone.”

Tottenham 0-2 Liverpool: Jose Mourinho explains why Spurs fans should still feel proud of Mauricio Pochettino

Jose Mourinho has launched a passionate defence of Mauricio Pochettino after Tottenham’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool.

Spurs failed to shine on the biggest night in their history as goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi sealed a 2-0 victory for the Reds in Madrid.

Pochettino’s wait for a major trophy goes on

The crushing loss leaves Pochettino without a trophy to show for his five years at Tottenham, or indeed his entire managerial career.

But Mourinho, working as a pundit alongside former adversary Arsene Wenger, insists Spurs fans should be proud of their manager.

“That’s the drama of football and sometimes it’s not fair. Mauricio has had four very good years at Spurs, brings them to the final for the Champions League, and he’s still waiting for the first trophy of his career,” the former Manchester United boss told beIN Sports.

“I feel very sorry for Mauricio but I think the English supporter is very loyal and they know when people give everything. They are a bit different than in other countries when everything is just about winning.

“I think the Tottenham fans are proud of their team. They still look to this team and this manager as a historical team for them.

“They will feel some love at home and next season when they go back to business, they will go with the pride of what they did and not in a low.”

Pochettino kept his head held high after the defeat – and refused to criticise his players.

“Of course I think we need to feel very proud about the effort, how we fight, for the ride to this final. We were very unlucky, you see the goal from the penalty,” he told BT Sport.

“We played so well in the second half. It’s not easy to play against a team that has played consistently very well, taking risks, I feel so proud.

“A little bit unlucky, to start a Champions League final from the start 1-0 it’s a tough situation, it changed completely the plan.

“I think we tried. We feel very proud of these players and the fans. It’s about being optimistic for the future.

“It’s about learning, to live the experience. I’m so happy to manage this group of players and congratulations to Liverpool because they had a fantastic season.”

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp ended his Champions League final curse and delivered his first piece of silverware as Liverpool manager.

And Mourinho could not be happier for his former Premier League rival.

He added: “A manager who reached three Champions League finals, it’s hard to lose one, must be very, very hard to lose two and today I think it’s a phenomenal day of his life, of his career.

“As a colleague, I’m very happy with it.”

Football: Emotional Diego Godin to leave Atletico Madrid after nine-year stay

MADRID (REUTERS) - Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin is leaving the club after nine years when his contract expires in June, the Uruguayan defender said at a news conference on Tuesday (May 7), fighting to hold back tears.
Godin, 33, has played 387 times for Atletico since joining from Villarreal in 2010, scoring 27 goals - including famously clinching the club's first LaLiga title in 18 years with a header in a 1-1 draw at Barcelona in 2014.
Godin did not say where he is going, but numerous Spanish media have reported that he is on his way to Italian Serie A club Inter Milan.
"I'm a little nervous, much more than I am before a game, but I have called everyone here to inform you that these are my final days at the club," Godin said.
Atletico president Enrique Cerezo added: "We are here to say goodbye to an Atletico legend. You have been a vital part of this great era for the club, with your efforts and your goals, like the one which gave us the title at the Nou Camp.
"You have fought in a thousand battles and defended the club's shirt in every game and you have worn the captain's armband.
"Wherever you end up, Atletico wishes you a lot of luck. Atletico is your family, the Wanda Metropolitano is your home."

In addition to the LaLiga triumph, Godin won two Europa League titles, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup and three Uefa Super Cups with Atletico as well as reaching the 2014 and 2016 Champions League finals, only to lose both times to Real.
Godin's departure will leave another hole in Atletico's defence, with France international Lucas Hernandez already agreeing to join Bayern Munich in June after they paid his €80 million (S$ 122 million) release clause.
