Just when Arsenal fans thought it couldn’t get any worse this week, they conceded three goals for the third time and made it a trio of defeats.
Having already lost to Crystal Palace and Wolves, Leicester City took their opportunity to brush the Gunners aside with ease.
Even before Ainsley Maitland-Niles was sent off for two bookable offences, Unai Emery’s men looked like struggling against the Foxes, who are performing well under new boss Brendan Rodgers.
Once they were down to 10-men, though, Arsenal were barely able to lay a glove on their opponents and had it not been for the brilliance of goalkeeper Bernd Leno could have lost the game by a bigger margin at the King Power Stadium.
The German shot-stopper was clearly their best player on the day but how did talkSPORT.com rate the rest of their XI, who look set to miss out on a top four spot? Find out below.
LATEST FOOTBALL STORIES
Bernd Leno – 9/10
Recovered well during an early mix up to claim the ball and after some straight forward stops then produced a fine effort to deny Wilfred Ndidi a goal from a header. He stood strong as his goal was peppered by the Foxes and it would definitely have been
Ainsley Maitland-Niles – 2/10
The youngster received an early yellow card for an unneeded block on Ben Chilwell but moments later he saved his side by deflecting a Maddison strike over the crossbar. He struggled with the threat of Chilwell who was marauding down the flank. His tough afternoon was ended after just 35 minutes when he fouled his tormentor Maddison on the halfway line as the Foxes broke on the counter.
Sead Kolasinac – 5/10
Failed to get forward and support Iwobi on a couple of occasions and was hardly a giant defensively with Marc Albrighton keeping him on his toes throughout.
Shkodran Mustafi – 6/10
Almost made an error early on attempting to shield the ball from a Leicester player but was generally okay, even when shifted out to right-back.
Sokartis – 5/10
Foolishly lumped the ball out of play during just as Arsenal had handled a spell of Leicester pressure and lost Ndidi for the Nigerian’s excellent chance from a corner. Not his finest game this season as he and Koscielny were then beaten by Vardy for Leicester’s second of the match.
Lucas Torreira – 6/10
Laid out by an unintentional boot in the chest by Hamza Choudhury early on an struggled to make his usual impact in central midfield as Leicester City moved their play to the flank. Plenty of effort from the Uruguayan though and he can hold his head higher than others.
Granit Xhaka – 4/10
Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint what the Swiss international is doing when the Gunners are on the back foot. His passing was well off the standard you would like him to bring in such a key game and wasted one counter attack with a lazy ball forward.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan – 4/10
A wandering display when the Gunners had 11 men remained an ambling effort when they lost Maitland-Niles, clearly kept on due to his threat on the counter but he was found wanting. Understandably hooked for Matteo Guendouzi after 72 minutes.
Alex Iwobi – 4/10
Dropped in deeper on occasion and appeared to be off the usual wavelength he has with Kolasinac. He was taken off at half-time and replaced by Koscielny as Emery shuffled his pack.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 4/10
Just couldn’t keep hold of the ball when the Gunners got forward and was unable to get one shot on Kasper Schmeichel’s goal in a tough match for the Gabonese ace.
Alexandre Lacazette – 6/10
Scuffed a good chance after 23 minutes having freed himself from his marker and was far brighter and more involved than his striker partner. He may have been feeding off scraps but was at least trying his hardest to get
Substitute: Laurent Koscielny – 5/10
Vital tackle stopped Vardy going through one-on-one with Leno but appeared just as ropey as him team-mate when it came to the crunch. His failed clearance allowed Vardy to race through and, eventually, scored the Foxes’ second.
Substitute: Matteo Guendouzi – 5/10
Other than some better passing, the French youngster made little-to-no difference in midfielder as Rodgers’ starlets shone at the King Power Stadium.
Substitute: Eddie Nketiah – N/A
Looked troublesome when he came on and got into the right areas but wasn’t on long enough to earn a mark.
